Your Dream Kitchen, Your Exact Color: The Power of Custom-Painted Fabuwood Cabinets
We’ve all been there: you find the perfect cabinet style, but the "stock" colors just don’t hit the right note for your home’s unique personality. At Kitchen Design Studio & More, we believe you shouldn't have to choose between quality construction and your favorite shade of blue (or green, or greige!).
That’s why we’ve mastered the art of the Custom Fabuwood Transformation.

Why Fabuwood? The Foundation of Quality
Before we talk color, we have to talk bones. We use Fabuwood as our canvas because they offer:
Solid Construction: High-quality materials that stand the test of time.
Blum Hardware: Smooth-close hinges and slides that feel like luxury every time you open a drawer.
Pro-Engineer Design: A variety of door styles, from the classic Shaker to more ornate profiles.
The Magic of Sherwin-Williams Customization
While Fabuwood offers stunning factory finishes, sometimes a project calls for something truly bespoke. Whether you’re dreaming of the moody Urban Bronze, the timeless Sea Salt, or a bold Naval blue, we can make it happen.

Behind the Scenes: Our Professional Finishing Process
Many people ask if we "just paint over" the cabinets. The answer is a firm no. To ensure the finish on your Fabuwood cabinets is "kitchen-tough," we follow a rigorous, multi-step industrial finishing protocol.
1. Surface Preparation & De-Glossing
We start with raw or factory-prepped Fabuwood doors. To ensure the Sherwin-Williams coating bonds at a molecular level, the surface must be perfectly smooth and free of oils. We perform a fine-grit mechanical sanding and a chemical de-glossing to create the "tooth" necessary for maximum adhesion.
2. The Priming Phase
We don't use standard household primer. We apply a high-solids, catalyzed primer specifically designed for hardwoods and MDF. This step:
Seals the wood grain.
Prevents "tannin bleed" (those annoying yellow spots that can ruin white cabinets).
Provides a perfectly flat, neutral base for your chosen color.
3. Precision Spray Application
Forget brushes and rollers, which leave texture and streaks. We use HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure) spray technology in a controlled environment. This allows us to apply the paint in thin, even "mil" thicknesses. We apply multiple coats, with fine-sanding between each layer, to achieve a finish that is as smooth as glass.
4. The Catalyzed Topcoat
This is the secret sauce. We use a catalyzed conversion varnish or a high-performance industrial coating tinted to your exact Sherwin-Williams color code. Unlike standard latex paint, which stays "soft" and can peel, our coating undergoes a chemical reaction as it cures, turning into a hard, durable shell.
5. Controlled Curing
Once sprayed, the doors are moved to a dust-free drying area with controlled temperature and humidity. This ensures the finish "levels out" perfectly and hardens to its full strength before they are ever installed in your home.
The Result: A finish that resists moisture, withstands heat, and handles the daily "wear and tear" of a busy kitchen without chipping or fading.
Let’s Build Your Masterpiece
Don't settle for a "standard" kitchen when you can have a space that is curated specifically for your taste. At Kitchen Design Studio & More, we bridge the gap between high-end manufacturing and boutique customization.
