Kitchen Design in 2026: A Personal Note from Annette
If you’ve been following my work here at KITCHENDSM.COM, you know I believe the kitchen is more than just a place to boil water. It’s where life happens. As we move through 2026, I’m seeing some wonderful shifts in how people are using their spaces.
If you’re planning a change this year, here is what is truly making a difference in the modern home.
The "Hidden" Kitchen
Most people I talk to are asking for less clutter and more calm. We are achieving this through Seamless Surfaces. Imagine a countertop that looks like a beautiful, solid piece of stone but has cooking technology integrated directly into the slab. When you're done, the "stove" disappears, leaving you with a clean, open space for entertaining or family time.

Bringing Nature Inside
We’ve moved past just having a few potted plants. People are now asking for Living Kitchens. This year, I’m helping clients install:
Natural Textures: We are moving away from cold, shiny finishes and back to warm woods and textured stones that feel earthy and real.
Tactical Luxury
2026 is all about how a kitchen feels. I’m seeing a big move toward Living Finishes. Materials like unlacquered brass or natural soapstone that age beautifully over time tell a story. It’s not about being "perfect" it’s about being home.
My Favorite Trend: The "Social Island"
The kitchen island has changed. Instead of just a prep station, people are turning them into Dining Hubs. We are designing them with staggered heights, lower sections for comfortable seating and higher sections for prep so the cook is always part of the conversation.

Annette’s Design Tip: "Don't design for what's trendy on social media. Design for how you actually make your morning coffee. The best kitchen is the one that fits your rhythm."
Are you ready to refresh your space? I’d love to hear your ideas. Whether you want a modern retreat or a cozy family hub, let's make it happen together at KITCHENDSM.COM
