Countertops are a vital part of your home’s aesthetic and functionality. Appearance matters just as much as maintenance, so finding a material that fits your design vision and lifestyle is important. With options ranging from Granite, Marble, Travertine, and Limestone to Quartz, Quartzite, Mineral Surfaces, and Porcelain, you’re sure to find something that fits your unique needs and personal style.

Often mistaken for quartz, which is man-made, quartzite is a natural stone formed when sandstone is compressed under intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. Once quarried, it’s cut into slabs, revealing distinctive veining that resembles marble but with far greater durability and lower maintenance.

We go to market with three premium and distinctive quartz brands that span the entire east coast from Miami to Maine.
Pompeii Quartz is sold exclusively in Florida – find it at five UMI branches throughout the state.
Forum Quartz is offered in Georgia and Alabama from our two Atlanta-area branches.
Vicostone Quartz is available exclusively from UMI in 14 states along the East Coast from South Carolina through Maine.

Porcelain slabs represent a major leap in architectural surfaces, offering a blend of technical excellence and creative freedom. These specialized surfaces are engineered to meet the rigorous demands of modern design, providing a versatile solution for everything from kitchen countertops to exterior building façades
We offer a curated selection of five primary materials, each suited to different lifestyles:
Quartz: Engineered stone; best for low maintenance and consistency.
Granite: 100% Natural; best for heat resistance and unique patterns.
Quartzite: Natural stone; offers marble-like beauty with granite-like strength.
Porcelain: High-tech ceramic; best for ultra-modern looks and outdoor use.
Marble: The classic luxury choice; best for those who value timeless character.
"Better" depends on your needs! Porcelain is 100% heat-proof (you can put a hot pan directly on it) and UV-resistant, making it perfect for outdoor kitchens or areas with heavy South Florida sun. Quartz is more impact-resistant on the edges and offers "through-body" color, meaning the pattern goes all the way through the stone.
Not at all. While they do require sealing, modern sealers are incredibly effective. We recommend a simple "wipe-on" sealing treatment once a year. This takes about 15 minutes and protects your investment against stains for the long term.
We follow the "Golden Rule" of kitchen remodeling: Cabinets must be fully and permanently installed before we template for countertops. This ensures a laser-accurate fit. Even a 1/8-inch shift in a cabinet after measuring can cause the stone not to fit.
Once your cabinets are installed and we take the final "template" (measurement):
Fabrication: Typically takes 7 to 10 business days.
Installation: Usually completed in a single day (3–5 hours). During this gap, you will have your new cabinets, but your sink and stove will not be functional yet.
We focus on the design and stone installation. For the technical hookups, we work with a network of trusted, licensed plumbing partners. We typically schedule them to arrive the day after the stone is installed to allow adhesives to cure properly before the sink is used.
Because natural and engineered slabs have size limits (usually around 120 inches), most large kitchens or L-shaped layouts require at least one seam. Our fabrication partners use high-precision vacuum tools and color-matched epoxy to make these seams as inconspicuous as possible.
Absolutely. For natural stones like Granite, Marble, and Quartzite, we encourage you to visit our partner stone yards to hand-select your specific slab. This ensures you are happy with the exact veining and movement that will be featured in your home.
Standard: The stone is its natural thickness (usually 3cm).
Mitered: Two pieces are joined at a 45-degree angle to make the countertop look much thicker (e.g., 2 or 3 inches). This is a very popular look for Porcelain and modern Quartz islands.
Clear a path from the door to the kitchen.
Remove all items from your lower cabinets (to protect them from dust).
Ensure an adult is present to approve the final placement and seam locations
